Revenge trading is one of the fastest ways to destroy your trading account. One bad trade turns into multiple bad trades, and suddenly your day — or your entire week — is ruined.

Why Traders Keep Revenge Trading

They feel like they “need to get the money back”

Their ego gets hurt after a loss

They believe the next trade will fix the previous one

How to Stop Revenge Trading

Set a hard daily loss limit and stop trading once you hit it

Take a 30-minute break after every losing trade

Write down in your journal “I am not allowed to trade for the next 30 minutes” after a loss

Have a written rule that says “No trading after 2 consecutive losses”

The Hard Truth: The best way to handle a bad trade is to accept the loss and move on. Revenge trading almost never works — it only makes the damage worse.

Most new traders spend all their time looking for the “perfect strategy” from YouTube or TikTok. The truth is, the best strategy for you is one you build yourself.

Here’s a simple process to create your first real trading strategy.

Step-by-Step Strategy Building Process

Choose Your Market & Timeframe Pick one market (EURUSD, NAS100, etc.) and one timeframe to focus on.

Identify a Market Behavior Look for repeatable patterns — support/resistance bounces, breakouts, or trend following.

Define Clear Rules Write exactly what must happen for you to enter a trade (no vague rules).

Add Strict Risk Rules Define your stop loss, take profit, and maximum risk per trade.

Test and Track Backtest it, then forward test it on a demo account.

Important: Start simple. A basic strategy with strict rules is much better than a complicated one you can’t follow.

Many traders try to use the same approach when trading both forex and stocks — and it usually backfires.

These two markets behave very differently, and treating them the same is a costly mistake.

Key Differences You Must Understand

Volatility & Movement Style — Forex moves on technical levels and economic news. Stocks are heavily driven by company news and sentiment.

Trading Hours — Forex is 24/5, while stocks have fixed market hours.

Leverage — Forex typically offers much higher leverage than stocks.

Market Manipulation — Stocks are more prone to gaps and sudden moves due to earnings.

Common Crossover Mistakes

Using the same risk per trade without adjusting for different volatility

Applying forex technical patterns directly to stocks

Overtrading stocks like they’re forex pairs

Not respecting stock market hours and news events

Bottom Line: Learn to respect each market for what it is instead of trying to force one strategy across both.

Most traders think scaling up is about increasing their position size. That’s actually one of the fastest ways to blow up.

Here’s the correct way to grow from a small account to a large one.

The Right Way to Scale Your Account

Master consistency first Prove you can be profitable for at least 3–6 months before increasing size.

Scale your risk slowly Only increase risk after a long period of consistent results, not after a few big wins.

Focus on percentage returns, not dollar returns A 5% return on a $10k account is more important than a 5% return on a $100k account.

Keep the same rules at every level Don’t change your strategy or risk rules just because your account is bigger.

Key Principle: Scale your account based on your proven skill level, not based on how much money you want to make.

The post How to Scale Up from a $10k to a $100k Account first appeared on Miami Trading Academy.

Most traders don’t realize that when you trade is just as important as what you trade.

The market behaves very differently depending on the time of day, and this can have a massive impact on your results.

The Best Trading Sessions

London Session (3 AM – 12 PM EST): Highest volatility and best moves. Ideal for most day traders.

New York Session (8 AM – 5 PM EST): Also very good, especially when it overlaps with London.

Asian Session (7 PM – 4 AM EST): Usually slow and choppy — best avoided by beginners.

Key Takeaways

The London-New York overlap (8 AM – 12 PM EST) is generally the best window for day trading.

Avoid trading during the Asian session unless you specifically trade JPY pairs.

Be extra careful around major news releases during London and New York sessions.

Bottom Line: Trading during the right session can dramatically improve your win rate without changing your strategy.

One of the most frustrating things in trading is watching your stop loss get taken out by just a few pips — only for the price to immediately reverse and go in your direction.

If this keeps happening to you, here’s what’s really going on.

Why Your Stops Keep Getting Hit

Placing stops at obvious levels Most traders put their stops right at round numbers, equal highs/lows, or moving averages — exactly where everyone else puts them.

Stop hunting by smart money Big players often push price into these obvious stop clusters to trigger liquidity before reversing.

Using tight stops on volatile pairs Some currency pairs need more room to breathe.

Placing stops based on how much you can afford to lose instead of technical levels

How to Fix It

Place your stops behind key technical levels, not on them

Give your trade enough room to breathe (use ATR to calculate proper stop distance)

Avoid placing stops at round numbers

Consider using a “stop zone” instead of a single price level

Key Takeaway: Your stop loss should be placed where the trade idea is invalidated, not where it’s most obvious.

The post Why Your Stop Losses Keep Getting Hit (And How to Fix It) first appeared on Miami Trading Academy.

The prop firm space has become incredibly crowded, and choosing the wrong one can cost you a lot of time and money.

Here’s exactly what you need to look for before you pay for any challenge.

The Most Important Factors to Consider

Daily Drawdown Limit — This is one of the most critical rules. A tight daily drawdown makes passing the challenge much harder than it needs to be.

Overall Drawdown Type — Is it trailing or static? Static drawdown is generally much more trader-friendly.

Profit Split & Payout Speed — How fast do they actually pay their traders?

News Trading & Holding Rules — Can you trade news? Can you hold positions overnight?

Challenge Structure — Are the profit targets realistic?

Red Flags to Watch Out For

Extremely tight daily drawdown limits

Unrealistic profit targets in Phase 1 or 2

Poor or slow customer support

Firms that constantly change their rules

Bottom Line: A firm with a reasonable daily drawdown and fair rules is far better than one with a high profit split but impossible restrictions. Always prioritize rules over profit split.

The post How to Choose the Right Prop Firm in 2026 first appeared on Miami Trading Academy.

Backtesting is one of the most misunderstood parts of trading. Most beginners think running a strategy through past data automatically makes it profitable. That’s far from the truth.

Here’s why most traders backtest incorrectly — and how to do it right.

Common Backtesting Mistakes

Curve-fitting (Over-optimizing) They tweak the strategy until it looks perfect on past data, but it fails in real time.

Ignoring spread, slippage, and commissions They assume perfect entry/exit prices that don’t exist in live trading.

Using too small of a sample size Testing only 3–6 months of data instead of 2–3+ years.

Not accounting for different market conditions A strategy that worked in a strong bull market may fail in a ranging or bearish one.

Forward-looking bias Accidentally using information that wasn’t available at the time of the trade.

How to Backtest Properly

Test at least 2 years of data (ideally 3–5 years)

Include realistic costs (spread + commission)

Track win rate, risk-reward, and maximum drawdown

Test across different market regimes (trending, ranging, high volatility)

Keep a detailed log of every trade

Final Truth: A good backtest doesn’t prove your strategy works. It only shows it might work. The real test is forward testing (demo) for several months.

High-impact news (NFP, interest rate decisions, CPI, etc.) creates massive opportunities — but also wipes out thousands of accounts every month.

Here’s how to handle news events the smart way.

Why Most Traders Get Destroyed During News

They hold positions through the news

They trade right when the number comes out (highest volatility)

They revenge trade after getting stopped out

Smart Ways to Trade News Events

The “No Trade” Rule (Recommended for beginners) Simply don’t trade 30 minutes before and 30 minutes after major news. Sit on the sidelines.

The Straddle Strategy Place buy-stop and sell-stop orders above and below the current price before the news. One will trigger, the other gets cancelled.

Wait for the Reaction Let the market react for 5–15 minutes after the news, then trade the actual direction it chooses.

Lower Your Position Size Dramatically If you must trade news, cut your normal risk by at least 50–75%.

Best Practice for Most Traders

Unless you have a proven news trading strategy with at least 100 trades of data, the safest move is to avoid trading during high-impact news.

Final Tip: Mark the high-impact news on your calendar every week and plan your trading schedule around it.

The post How to Trade News Events Without Blowing Up first appeared on Miami Trading Academy.

Most traders focus 80% of their time on finding better strategies and only 20% on risk management. The smart ones do the opposite.

Here are the risk management rules that actually matter.

The Most Important Risk Rules

Never risk more than 1% of your account on a single trade This is the golden rule. On a $1,000 account, that’s $10 max per trade.

Always use a stop loss Trading without a stop loss is gambling, not trading.

Set a daily loss limit If you lose 3% of your account in one day, stop trading. Walk away.

Respect your weekly loss limit A good rule is to stop trading for the week if you’re down 6–8%.

Position size correctly Calculate your lot size based on your stop loss distance, not on how strongly you feel about the trade.
